Domaine des Granits emerged from the collaborative efforts of two friends, Benjamin Cormerais and Anthony Branger, who, in 2021, seized the opportunity to take over an old, semi-abandoned vineyard nestled within the magnificent Clos des Noëlles in the heart of the Sèvre et Maine appellation.
The plot has been undergoing conversion to organic farming since 2020, obtaining certification with the 2023 vintage. A conversion that, however, proved to be quite challenging. Due to the region’s oceanic climate, compounded by the susceptibility of the Melon de Bourgogne grape to diseases and rot, managing the vineyard's health can be complex, especially while adhering to organic and biodynamic parameters.
Currently spanning a modest 4 hectares, the Domaine's jewel, Clos des Noëlles, benefits from optimal exposure at the village's highest point, ensuring full grape maturity even in the most challenging vintages. Moreover, its strategic location and exposure minimise the risks of spring frosts, which have become increasingly prevalent. Planted on the distinctive granit de Clisson soils — a plutonic rock prone to fracturing with high draining qualities— the vines penetrate deep into the earth, enabling the fullest expression of terroir. In the cellar, Benjamin and Anthony follow the same approach as the one adopted in the vineyard. Dedicated to natural practices and guided by lunar cycles, the wines are crafted with minimal intervention, highlighting the pure essence of the fruit and the land.
